Ten Easy Ways To Create Space In Your Home
There are two kinds of people in the world - those that keep everything and those that throw out everything that isn’t glued down.
Often they marry each other - but that’ a whole other article
It may seem counter-intuitive that someone who makes his living by storing people’s extra stuff is writing an article encouraging you to improve your storage space at home; however, that’s me in a nutshell - a contradiction.
Besides, it really doesn’t matter. It seems to be the American way to keep collecting things. Sooner or later, you’ll probably be using a self storage unit!
So (drum roll, please) here are the ten suggestions.
One - Use the space under your beds for out of season clothing, blankets, linen, etc. You can buy storage boxes so you can keep all your things clean.
Two - Wall space is often overlooked. Can you add a shelf or closet somewhere?
Three - Use stacking containers and hanging racks to get more cabinet/counter space. Can you mount small appliances under the cabinets?
Four - In the kitchen, use a ceiling rack to hang your pots and pans.
Five - Purchase or build inexpensive cabinets to make extra space in your basement or garage.
Six - Make or purchase your own closet organizer. Two poles hanging one above the other for shorter garments.
Seven - Have you thought of using a set of stackable, rolling wire baskets to create more space in your closets?
Eight - To organize shoes, ties, and belts, use racks and hooks inside closet and bathroom doors.
Nine - Buy a wardrobe for additional closet space. If you can’t afford to buy one, visit a self storage center and pick up a wardrobe moving box. They are strong and hold quite a bit.
Ten - Finally, if you still are having trouble with your space, throw out things you don’t use anymore. I have 2 year rule: if I haven’t needed it in two years I am living without it. I can throw it out. How about you?
Hopefully these space saving tips will help you maximize the use of space in your home.
