Considerations Before Adopting An Exotic Bird

An attribute about the words “exotic bird” conveys to mind images of tropical paradises, hidden in blooming rain forests, with pleasant birdsong saturating the air. This is why many Americans invite these unique creatures into their living space.

Possibly this is the reason that according to a current study, there are millions of birds presiding in US homes. Dissimilar other tame animals, birds obtain vivid colors, calming voices, and life expectancy similar to that of a human. For an individual in search of a striking life long friend, a bird is an excellent selection.

Although, not every bird is thought of as exotic. Exotic Birds for Sale typically comprise Parrots, Cockatoos, Conures, Macaws, Caiques, Macaws, Red Bellied, Indian Ringneck, and Eclectus Parrots, Lorikeets, Parrotlets, Scarlet Crested Grass Keets, Rosellas, and Toucans. Many of these birds come from tropical places, and are tremendously difficult to locate in wild settings. Many of these birds were initially established into homes in the 1600’s throughout the Spanish expeditions.

As a result of their scarceness, exotic birds may extend in price from $10 to over $20,000. Gang-gang Cockatoos and Hyacinth Macaw obtain some of the more high priced breeds for their uncommon sub-species. The subspecies is typically specified by offering extremely distinguished coloring more so than that of the rest of the breed, or by the complexity of breeding the bird in internment.

Still, with no record to the lofty price, a number of people favor an exotic breed because a lot of these birds can copy human speech and are incredibly smart. There is no welcome comparable to a bird that addresses company by name! The birds are known to warn homeowners of uninvited guests, or commonly provide a person a motive to grin. The maner a breeder interrelates with the birds is a proficient signal of their nature and meticulousness. Additionally, a caution indicator is if the birds are in dirty, insanitary, or excessively packed circumstances. This warns of a elevated likelihood of immoral breeding methods. A concluding consideration is to question the breeder if the bird was hand raised. This is commonly measured as helpful by veterinarians’, especially for exotic birds. A hand raised bird will be more familiar with humans; more domestic, and will adapt more simply to new surroundings.

Delicious Tastes For Wild Birds

Wild birds, like humans, have certain preferences for meals. Discover what your feathered friends favor at their feeding station. An astute pick of bird treats along with sufficient cover will draw in a wide diversity of bird species.

Each and every wild bird has its personal favorite meals, but the common sunflower seeds are known to be the most popular amongst seed-eater birds. This is significant information for bird lovers who may want to attract a number of wild birds to their backyard feeders. This also reveals why sunflower seed is the main component of wild bird seed mixes.

There are many types of wild bird seed mixes for bird feeding, but the majority of mixing are not a favorite amid wild birds. There are three main hints for buying wild bird seed. The first tip is to look at the label. In present times, smart shoppers look at the food labels before purchasing it for their homes. Likewise, labels should be considered when purchasing seed mixes.

If you hope to bring different kinds of wild birds to your feeders, avoid wild bird mixes in which oats, cereals and/or “mixed grains” are present. Most wild birds reject these foods. An additional tip is to avoid fillers like the mixed grains. Some bird seed mixtures contain “filler” seeds, which make the bag more full, but commonly end up uneaten under your bird feeder since birds eat what they enjoy, and plainly put, it’s not “fillers.”

Birds often brush their bills through their seed and ditch the ones they don’t desire or they dislike on to the ground. Even ground-feeding birds may dismiss the spilled seed. The last pointer in purchasing wild bird seed is to pick out clean bags of food.

Most bird seed is 94 to 95 percent clean, which may sound rather clean, but it means that a 40-pound bag of seed may include over two pounds of inedible material, meaning, more unwanted extras that will drop to the ground. Many sellers are obligated to sieve the bird seed three times to eliminate any empty shells, sticks, leaves and other debris which is ordinarily found in other vendors’ seed bags.

I hope you find this information helpful to you. In your quest to fill your bird feeders look for feed mixes that contain clean mixes without an excessive amount of filler. These are the basic tips on what your wild birds want and prefer. Take these three simple steps in consideration next time you purchase your wild bird seed and take notice at the increase in wild birds feeding at your feeders.

Outdoors enthusiast Ethan O. Tanner shares his knowledge on various feeding methods for wild birds and how to select quality bird seed for your feeders.

Depending on what part of the country you are in, nearly all will have success with seed bird feeders which are presented in a safe area and at the very least fifteen feet from adjoining trees and shrubs. The type of seeds offered will also depend on your locale and kind of environment. In summer time, a straightforward dripping hose directly into a bird bath is simply impossible to resist to your backyard birds.

The birds in your backyard should sense safe and secure when they are at your backyard feeder. This protection is supplied by nearby shrubs or trees. ( though as mentioned earlier, your feeder should not be closer than 15 feet to the nearest shrub or underbrush. ) This is to prevent an unneeded ambush by a cat or hawk which usually is using this cover to stalk the birds.

What is a Chicken Ark?

A chicken ark is a particular kind of housing for chickens that is a bit different from a regular chicken coop. In the United States, this kind of housing is often referred to as a chicken tractor instead, but the building is the same thing. It’s just the name that’s different. Essentially, it is a portable chicken coop without a floor. This makes some things, like cleaning, much easier, because most chicken droppings will simply fall directly to the dirt.

The most common design for a chicken ark is an A-frame, which is kind of the same structure as a saw-horse. For this kind of ark, you attach two end-pieces with a long horizontal beam at the top. The end-pieces consist of two beams put together with roughly a 45 degree angle (or greater). These vertical beams are then connected to each other with a cross-piece, forming roughly the same shape as a capital A, hence the name A-frame.

Once you have the frame constructed, you can attach walls, chicken or similar wire, and nest boxes and a roost within the frame itself. Since there is no floor, and not a whole lot of heavy wood attached to the chicken ark, this type of house for your birds is usually more easy to move around your garden. You can attach wheels to it to make the process even easier. This type of design is not perfect, though, because the lack of floor makes it a bad choice for cold environments. If you live somewhere that gets extremely cold, you may wish to consider using a different kind of portable chicken coop instead, or your birds will get sick from the temperature.

A different design looks more like a wheel-barrow or hand-cart, with a more traditional coop on the end in place of the cart. This design is still very portable, and still has a wire walls at the bottom with no real floor on the coop part of the ark, but provides a little bit more protection from the heat. They are also heavier, though.

Another problem with using a chicken ark instead of a traditional coop to house your poultry is that they are not very predator-proof. Since the construction of the bottom part consists largely of wire mesh, your birds will not feel very safe if there are animals prowling about which want to eat them. The lack of a floor means that if any predators manage to get in through that wire, your chickens will be in dire straits indeed. Make sure you don’t have large numbers”or ideally any”natural predators of chickens if you construct an ark.

However, if predators and temperature are not big problems where you live, then a chicken ark may be the ideal solution if you plan on raising chickens. They are very easy to clean, and most designs come with detachable walls to make this even easier. They can also help to let your chickens range the yard without walking completely free, which while nice is not always an option. For instance, if you live in a suburban area but have a very large garden, this kind of housing is probably a much better bet than a larger coop and just letting your birds walk free, where they will probably get into your neighbours’ gardens as well.

Getting to Know the African Grey Parrot

The African grey parrot offers intelligence and bonding habits that many other parrot species don’t. The African grey will form a bond with you, talk to you, be playful with you, get angry with you, and love you to pieces! What else could you want from a family pet?

Scientists classify this bird as belonging to the genus and species Psittacus erithacus. There are two subspecies of the main singular species. One is known scientifically as Psittacus erithacus erithacus, commonly called the Congo African grey parrot. The next is Psittacus erithacus timneh, also known as the Timneh African grey. The central and western regions of Africa produce the Congo greys, which are the larger of the two subspecies. The Timneh greys are natives of Sierra Leone as well as the Ivory Coast area and are lighter by a few ounces. Experts in the avian field are trying to figure out if the Principe Island greys are actually a third subspecies or just a variation of one that is already established. Many individuals maintain that the Princeps is one variation of the Congo line of greys.

Two characteristics that are universal among all greys is a white or gray patch of skin that surrounds their eyes as well as their black feet. All of them have smooth grey plumage, which is soft looking in appearance. The Congo’s are a paler shade, their beaks are completely black, and at maturity their tail feathers are a dark red color. The Timneh’s are characterized by a two-toned beak, and you will find hints of taupe and maroon coloring among their darker grey feathers.

In their natural habitat, the rainforest areas, these birds live in flocks, and they usually bond in a monogamous fashion with their mate until death or separation ends their relationship. They mostly eat fruit and nuts, which they find at the tops of trees. They are very watchful in their native setting–to avoid being some predator’s lunch!–and they are successful at keeping themselves pretty safe because they are among the most intelligent of all birds.

So what can you expect when you bring one of these wonderful birds into your home? First of all, your African grey is going to be like a kid for you. Typically they demonstrate the emotional maturity of a two-year-old child but the intelligence of a five-year-old. And because it is their native instinct to bond with a mate, when they’re brought into a household they will do what is, for them, the next best thing: find one person in the family to become attached to.

It will be your job to bring your bird into the family and show him that he can trust you. If you are the one he bonds with most solidly, it is your responsibility to ensure that he maintains social behavior with everyone else in the family. You’ll find that your African grey is very perceptive of your feelings, most likely because of the observation skills required of these birds in their natural habitat. In fact, your bird will actually notice if you are having a down day, and he’ll be eager to interact with you.

If there is a lot of anger and unhappiness in your home, or if there is a lot of shouting and noise, your African grey will not respond to you. He will not like having his beak tapped on. Greys like to live in flocks; therefore, they are accustomed to being treated as equals. Nonetheless, your bird may truly enjoy being in the spotlight!

When you bring home a parrot, it is like adopting a child. Understand that African greys remain immature for approximately 5 years. After that time, it will take another 5 years for the bird to reach full maturity. The grey has a life expectancy on average of 40 to 50 years.

Knowing the proper technique to use on how to get your bird to play with you is important. Convincing the parrot to rock or bob along with you is one way to interact with him in a playful way. Remember to initially move slowly around him because he must build up his trust in you. Some people report that when they purchase a new toy for their bird, they play with it for awhile initially, showing lots of enthusiasm so that the bird will want to play with it as well. Many experts recommend that you keep them close to you throughout the time you spend at home. If you are in the family room, kitchen, or even the bathroom, move his cage or perch close to you so that he can watch what you’re doing. He will get enjoyment watching what you are doing, and he enjoys it if you praise him.

The most fun is getting your African grey to make sounds and to talk. These birds are famous for their ability to mimic the sounds around them. African greys can imitate animals and sound effects to a “T”. They can also imitate human voices.

The African grey parrot makes a wonderful addition to any family. You are going to love having this bird!

Nothing Better Than Quail Hunting In The Georgia Outdoors!

Hunting is a tradition in Georgia, especially quail hunting which is particularly popular. Much like Alabama Quail Hunting there is a strong tradition for hunting the tasty flying bird known as the quail. Every year, hunters hunt everywhere the north Georgia mountains to the southern Georgia swamps looking for Georgia quail as well as other water fowl. Georgia to quail hunting season is on right now from mid-November through late February. If you’re going to a Georgia quail hunting spot, then keep in mind that there is a 12 per hunter limit.

The sport of hunting is very huge in Georgia. In fact over 300,000 hunters registered in Georgia in the 2008 hunting season. Many people in Georgia consider hunting a way of life. Some families even depend on hunting for an economical source of meat year-round. After quail season, the bird hunters of Georgia look ahead for March so that they can hunt turkey. The turkey limit in Georgia is three per hunter! Turkeys love to follow the rivers and streams near woodlands and will emerge in the wide open at times when you least expect it. I would consider the turkey, the fox of the bird kingdom… and in Georgia is a “fox”that is well hunted.

Waterfowl love the Georgia swamps that welcome duck, pheasants, dove and geese the year. Be careful when hunting around the swamps of Georgia, there’s a few birds you need to know about due to their endangered species designations. The one that comes to mind first is the woodcock. The careful and know what the woodcock looks like. Georgia game wardens are notoriously sneaky, not to mention you want to take care of the environment.

Marsh hens are a popular food source for hunters and a larger bird that keeps well in the freezer. If you just want to shoot something, try the crow. This bird has no bag limit and it is encouraged to take as many out as you can!

You can even find alligator hunting in South Georgia! What an adventure! There is plenty more hunting in Georgia though! Of course everyone knows that deer hunting is big in Georgia. You have also have bear hunting too in the north Georgia mountains!

Another animal, the wild hog, is invading the state of Georgia and you can hunt year around for it on private land! The wild hog is uprooting roots and destroying much habitat that other species need for survival! People don’t like them because they can dig up the gardens and mess up fences.

It is the hunting that I’m most interested in the state of Georgia. I grew up quail hunting in the Northeast Alabama mountains, and I love to do the same thing in Georgia! I love cooked quail after a hunt. Although you might not get a lot of meat per bird, the flavor is awesome. When I cook mine, I like it marinated in a sweet barbecue sauce and add a little bit of garlic. I heat some olive oil and add a little fresh garlic! I would then add the quail after the oil is really high and cook it to a golden brown. Delicious!

George is a perfect location for quail to thrive. You can find great grassy marshes around much of Georgia, often with a corn field or soybean crop beside them. This is perfect habitat for many waterfowl and other wildlife.

There is nothing greater than quail on the bob on your next hunting trip! There are enough Bob White quails in Georgia to keep the hunters busy all season long!

Cooked quail meat offers for a tasty dinner and it can be rather effortless to come across good bird numbers in Alabama. For this reason, it is incredibly popular and for good reason.

Quail hunting can be done with a pair of hunting dogs in addition to two hunters. Most hunters own what they will call their bird dogs which run out and chase the birds in the area. The bird dogs also go to retrieve the birds soon after they drop to the field. Not just that, the dogs make tremendous hunting companions.

When hunting, is important that every single hunter is aware where one another could be all the time. Throughout my area, Sand Mountain, generally people prefer to go to the open fields in late autumn to seek quail. Once the outdoorsmen kill a bunch of quail, they will often have a substantial quail dinner or they freeze the quail for later on.

If you have possibly not done a lot of quail hunting, in order to get going, it is useful to go out for some time with an experienced outdoorsman in your town. They are able to teach you the best ways of how to find the right spots as well as the tricks of killing loads of quail without going overboard.

By law, it is critical for you to regard the rights of the land owners as well as secure authorization whereever you plan to hunt. Of course, you need to ensure you get an Alabama hunting permit and it is advisable to identify all the Alabama state laws and regulations in regards to bird hunting. No one wants the area game warden writing them a ticket.

A lot of outdoorsmen will concur that Alabama is the the best state for quail hunting. Quail hunting offers a lot of entertainment out in mother nature.

Just make sure to hold safety paramount. Consider the Dick Cheney hunting episode. While quail hunting, ex-United States V.P.
