Magic Tricks, Magic Shops and Getting Started
All over the world, people of all ages and walks of life have been fascinated with magic, and this is not something new. Amazing people with prestidigitation powers has been a way to entertain for centuries. Although magic could get you burned at the stake during the particularly dark ages, this didn’t stop people performing magic tricks, and the best place to start would be with a good magic shop. Let me introduce you to a magic world!
The word prestidigitation means “skill in performing magic tricks”, problem is this skill rarely comes naturally. Conjurors have to practice to be able to say “Hey Presto” with any conviction.
Start by finding your own magic world, a great magic shop and stock up on some essential magic tricks at beginners’ level. As good a place as any to start is with the magic shop’s top ten recommended magic tricks as, even as you practice these and become adept, and turn this new found skill into money.
Unfortunately even the most adept alchemists could not turn led into gold, so this is not what we are suggesting. There is a sincere demand for entertainers, in particular, magicians, for fetes, fairs, birthday parties and corporate events. I have even seen magician performing in amongst the customers in restaurants.
Sleight of hand has to be practiced to ensure the illusion is completely believable. So you have to have the correct tools to practice with, and these can only be found at the best magic shops.
Magic tricks come in three levels of difficulty; Easy Magic, Intermediate Magic and Expert Magic. It would definitely not be a good idea to get started by sawing your next door neighbour in half.
Start with the easy magic tricks first and leave expert magic to experts. The more you practice with your top ten tricks, the more proficient you become. From here you will soon be able to add intermediate magic to your repertoire, and then expert. Then and only then, can you deign to saw your neighbour in half , but perhaps you should start with a neighbour you don’t like very much.
Your favourite magic shop will advise which top ten to choose, and perhaps a good place to start would be with a tutorial DVD. Oz Pearlman has a good one called “Born To Perform”, the Executive Magic Collection has a good cross section of props to use and the amazing 50p karate coin is good fun. Pop into a magic world and learn how to say hey prestos and leave the room in a puff of smoke, leaving your audience wondering!
